A burst of July 4th inspiration from our Crew Team!

We're just a week away from the July 4th holiday! Are you stocked up on your sparklers and snacks? Have you submitted your project for our 4th of July challenge?
Our Crew Team designers are BURSTING with ideas for you! Check them out below:
Kendra Sand made this tribute to the USA using our Red White And Blue set. We love how she used the stick of the sparkler in the set to make the border accents in red. She also used red rhinestones and some dabs of Stardust Gelly Roll Glitter Pen to give the fireworks that extra ooh ahh! Glittery embossing on the USA and a little peek of our red silk ribbon behind the star are festive finishing touches.

You may have gotten a glimpse of Linda Lapotka's card below when we issued our July 4th challenge, but it's definitely worth another look! With its embossed white stars and silver-glittered sparkler as a focal point, Linda's card really shines. Along with Red White and Blue, Linda also used the Corrugated Box background on the bottom of the card to complete that complete stars and stripes feel.

Katherine Schmitt's card below will really get your July 4th picnics and other plans in motion! The appropriately colored red, white and blue daisies from our Oops a Daisy set are all mounted on our Action Wobble springs, making them wobble back and forth when you touch them. The Washi Tape Americana she added to the bottom makes the perfect holiday border!

Like Katherine, Allison McCutcheon found wonderful July 4th inspiration in a non-July 4th set! Here, Allison shows how much she loves USA with the heart from our Heart Attack set. The bursts from the heart definitely call to mind fireworks fun for the holiday! We love the symbolic red, white and blue ribbons from our BoatHouse Collection grosgrains on the side to "tie" it all together!

Thanks, Crew Team gals -- fantastic job!

We hope all of you are inspired as we are by the Crew Team's ideas and that you will submit YOUR creative take on the 4th of July to our challenge! You could win a free Raisin Boat stamp set of your choice! Entries are due by July 12.

Happy party-planning for your July 4th holiday!

Two Pop-up Cards for Two Celebrations

This weekend a little girl celebrated her birthday. She happens to be Kim's daughter, Alayna and the "A" in BOAT of Raisin Boat (Read our story on our Website under "About Us"). This little girl is pretty cute and deserves a fun and sweet card.

Happy Birthday, Alayna!

Here's what I made to celebrate her birthday. It's a pop-up card using acetate strips. It's very easy to make and fun to give to any age. Using Raisin Boat stamp set, "Hey, Cupcake!" and various shades of lavenders, orchids and pinks, I stamped and colored the heart image (stamped repeatedly on the front) with my Copic Markers. I am in love with orchid and lilac these days. They are hot, hot, colors for the season (just bought the hubby a Calvin Klein tie in these colors) and love our new Copic Marker Lilac V04 in the new Copic Collection called Soft Picks. I punched and popped up a few hearts in Lavender Bloom cardstock, too.

The fun part of this card is that when you open it, it reveals an over-sized cupcake and various sized hearts in shades of lavender and purple. All of them are connected to acetate strips that pop up at different heights. I used our fab white pen to make the Xs and Os and our Gelly Roll Stardust Clear pen to add glitter on the hearts, too. Inside, the card reads, "It's Your Day -eat it up!" - a phrase from the "Hey, Cupcake!" stamp set.

Congrats Grad!

This past weekend we also celebrated a senior graduation. I used the same idea to make his card. Our Grad Hats embossing folder and stamp set, "High Five Grad" were used for the card front. I popped up the grad hat that I colored using Copics C1 and C3. This is a very quick card front to make.

Inside the card is various stars punched out in Black Granite, Grape Stomp and Brighton Beach White. I used the glitter pen to add a bit of glitz to each star.

I also used one of our Innies and Outies(TM) verses from the Congrats and Graduation set to finish the inside of the card.

Here's a side view of the stars popping up as you open it. I added notches to hold a gift card or cash/check behind the stars.

To make the pop-up card, follow these steps:

  • Cut a piece of cardstock 4" W X 11" H. Keep in mind, that your finished length will be 1" short on both sides due to the tabs you are creating in the center. If you want your finished piece to be longer, use a 12" X 12" cardstock and cut down to 4" W X 12" for a portrait-shaped card.
  • Score at 5.5" and then score two more times on each side of the center line in 1/2" increments. That is, score at 4.5", 5" 5.5" 6" and 6.5".
  • Fold the lines to make an "M" shape from the side.
  • Add Sticky Strip Adhesive to each inner side of the "M" shape as seen here.

  • Using a tape runner or more Sticky Strip, adhere the back sides of each "M" peak so that you only see two tabs sticking up from the center. You can see how it should look from the side view of the stars photo above
  • Add acetate strips to one side by removing the adhesive cover strip to reveal the sticky part of the strip. The strips should be at various lengths. I like to make the center strip the longest and taper to shorter strips on each end for a symmetrical shape.

  • Remove the other strip protector and attach to the acetate strip fronts so that they are enveloped inside the tabs.

  • Add this inside piece to the inside of your outer card (that is 4.25" W X 11" H).
  • I added a 4" X 5.25" cardstock piece to each inside panel so that my matting was consistently 1/4" all around. This does add additional weight to your card, however.
  • Lastly, attach your stars, balloons, cupcakes or whatever you choose!

Ideas to try
  • Use pop-up stars or fireworks for a July 4th card.
  • Use pop-up hearts for a Valentine's Day card or wedding card.
  • Use pop-up monsters or ghosts for a Halloween Card.
Try a pop-up card today. I hope Miss Alayna and my neighbor enjoyed there cards! I sure had fun making them :) -  Smiles, Bobbi

A Colorful Combination for Summer!

Happy Summer! Today is the first day of Summer and we are celebrating in color! We challenged our Design Crew Team to make a card using Raisin Boat BoatHouse Collection(TM) cardstock colors: Yellow Duckie, Summer Lime and Pool Party. We love this bright, summery color combo and wanted to see what they would do with it. Here's what each designer came up with.

Crew Team Designer, Allison McCutcheon made this summer-themed card using "Modern Mobility." This would be a great card for the tweens/teenage years. Allison's creative fold makes this card front unique and interesting.

Designer, Linda Lapotka chose the floral set, "Bloom" for her card. Her interesting borders and shapes as well as the "Chicken Wire" stamped background adds a special flair. Like the red love bug? We have lots of fun brads (like this one) in our Products section, Bling, Brads and More, at

Remember this card from our blog post last week on gift cards? Linda also made this card using the same color combination using "Cool Treats" and "Lollipop." It's cool looking in more than one way!

Crew Team Designer, Katherine Schmitt used "Purrsonality" for her creation. I love how she made a ball of yarn using our Baker's Twine. It's very clever and cute, cute, cute!

Designer, Kendra Sand made a baby card using the color trio. "Talking in Circles" was used for the focal point image. Like Katherine, Kendra added Baker's Twine as well as a button and gingham ribbon in green to the card for soft details.

I'm always excited to see what our Design Crew Team comes up with for each month's set of challenges. I love this color combination and I love the cards that each one made. Try this color combo out on your next card featuring Raisin Boat stamp sets. Send us your card to We'd love to see what you do with this color mix.

Happy "First Day of Summer!" Get out and enjoy the sun today! :) Smiles, Bobbi

You have until July 12 to link your creations below - so please play along so we can all "ooooh" and "aaahhhhh" over your great ideas, just like a fireworks show!

Gift card holder ideas

My go-to gift is often a gift card or certificate. Although some people believe they're not as personal when it comes to gifting, I actually feel the exact opposite -- a gift card is extremely thoughtful! You can tailor it to the person's exact tastes and interests, and who wouldn't be delighted by a little extra spending money at their favorite place these days?

Plus, you can always add a very personal touch with the card you create to hold your gift card. We asked our awesome Crew Team gals to show us some ideas, and they came up with great ones!

Speaking of gals... since it's almost the end of our Gal Gala sale, we thought we'd start off by showing this adorable gift card holder designed by Crew Designer Kendra Sand (using Gals on Summerset Circle and the Goes With Summerset Gardener Gal).

Don't forget you still have through tomorrow, June 14, to grab ANY of our Gal or their Goes With accessory sets for the low price of $9.99 each! You'll save more than 33% when you buy now! (See details at

Kendra did a beautiful job coloring our gardener from Gals on Summerset Circle (which also includes a really cute beach gal). The other items featured are from the fun accessory set, Goes With Summerset Gardener Gal.
Both are just $9.99 through tomorrow!
Isn't this a clever way to tuck the gift card inside? Great idea, Kendra!

Crew Team Designer Katherine Schmitt came up with this fun gift card -- what a cute concept for those hard-to-buy-for teens! The design could also be easily adapted to a Father's Day theme for the upcoming weekend! We know the dads out there love to watch a little t.v., right? Just drop a sports image or fun word into the customizable screen, and add a gift card Dad will love!

Katherine featured our Screen Shots set with Sleepless Slumber and Summer Lineup for this fresh and happy greeting. Love it, Katherine! Add anything inside the t.v. screen - there are so many fun possibilities! To see supplies, click here.

We love how the t.v. antennae pulls up to reveal the iTunes card!

Crew Team Designer Allison McCutcheon was thinking out of the box -- and into the purse -- for her adorable gift card packaging! By simply angling the edges of a regular card, she created this precious and portable purse holder that we know girls of any age would love! This would also make such a sweet birthday party invitation.

Allison used Asian Serenity Outline and our BoatHouse CollectionTM grosgrain ribbon, which coordinates beautifully with our BoatHouse Collection cardstock colors. This is gorgeous, Allison! All supplies are listed here.

Sealing the gift card with Velcro is a nice finishing touch!

Crew Team Designer Linda Lapotka is getting summer off to a perfect start with this refreshing ice cream-themed gift card! I've been known to have some brain freezes, myself, so I think this is a card I will be making for my belated greetings -- and the gift card really makes up for being slightly behind with the b-day wishes. A little ice cream solves nearly everything!

Linda used our Cool Treats and Lollipop background sets for this gift card holder. She did some paper piecing with our BoatHouse CollectionTM cardstock to achieve the bold look on the popsicles.
Looks good enough to eat, Linda! All supplies are listed here.

Bakers Twine is a nice extra accent to the cute pocket for the gift card.

Next time you need a gift card holder, you'll be ready with lots of ways to include the gift card and personalize it for your lucky recipient! Remember, we also offer Money Gift Innies and OutiesTM at You'll love these pre-printed inserts that fit perfectly into your standard greeting cards, complete with 8 different light-hearted phrases about your money gift -- plus 8 envelopes! Check out all of our Innies and OutiesTM themes here.

It's a Gal Gala at!

Have you met the Gals of Raisin Boat? We don't mean Kim and Bobbi... we're talking about the Gals on Country Club Court, the Gals on Madison Avenue, the Gals on Flashback Lane, and many others who live at in our Gal stamp set series.

Now's the time to get to know them because we're having a Gal Gala! This means every single one of our gal sets and their "Goes With" accessory sets are on sale for just $9.99 each -- that's a 33% discount!

To show you how fun it is to use these gals and their coordinating "Goes With" sets, we asked our Crew Team to come up with some ideas. They did a fantastic job highlighting several of the gals' personalities, which you'll see below.

Linda was feeling groovy when she worked with the '70s and '80s gals in our Gals on Flashback Lane! This far out, outta sight card also features the disco ball, hanging beads, and record album (my kids are asking what that is?!) from the coordinating Goes With Flashback '70s Gal.

And you'll never guess what she so cleverly used to make the large record around the gal... our dinner plate from What's For Dinner?! What a dynomite idea, we're really diggin' it! :-) Did you see how she added bling to the beads with holo iridescent Glitter Liner?

To see all supplies for this card, click here.

For this next card, Linda did a really unique effect. You're looking at the front of the card on the top, and the inside of the card underneath it. See how the gal's shirt on the cardfront looks like the colors of the ice cream? That's because it IS the ice cream-- she cut the shirt out and made it transparent to the inside so it would show the twisty soft-serve colors! The ice cream and phrases are from our Cool Treats set.

To see all supplies used in this card, click here.

We love Allison's approach to our Gals on Madison Avenue, too! Below, you're again looking at the cardfront on the top and the inside of the card underneath it. It's such a great way to remind someone to stop working so hard and have some well-deserved fun on their birthday -- or to join you for a girls' night out! Notice how Allison cleverly changed the time on the clock, which is in the Goes With Madison Avenue Gals accessory set.

To see all supplies used in this card, click here.

Allison also used the Goes With Madison Avenue accessory set to make this bright and happy card. Love the fresh colors she chose! It shows how even just an accessory set on its own -- without the gals -- can create the perfect greeting! This card gets me thinking...  it's 5:00 somewhere, right? Cheers! :-)

To see supplies used in this card, click here.

Katherine showed us what an adorable baby shower or congratulations card can be created with the Gals on Hope Avenue set (which also features a nurse/doctor or other medical/dental field Gal). Below, Katherine used the maternity gal and the Goes With Hope Maternity Gal accessory set to design a beautiful and thoughtful greeting.

The calendar even allows you to mark your loved one's due date right on the card for that extra personal touch! Also, check out Katherine's gorgeous paper piecing that comprises the border design at the bottom!

Looking for Kendra's Gal card? Stay tuned in a blog post coming soon! She used Gals on Summerset Circle and Goes With Summerset Gardener Gal to make a unique card template that includes a special something tucked inside. You'll love it!

We hope we've inspired you to get to and check out all of our Gal sets and their accessories! View them on our Products page under the Lifestyles category.
